#8…. Wurf Board: Air-Spring Surface for Standing Desk Users
Standing desks are all the rage. We are being told that if you stand 15 minutes out of every hour it has many health benefits: invigorating the mind and body, boosting circulation, taking pressure off the spine and allowing the muscles to stretch and refresh. For decades, sitting at a desk has been the office standard. But thanks to science and research, we know that sedentary behavior causes a host of health and wellness problems – from poor circulation to premature spinal disc degeneration. Katy Bowman, author of “Move your DNA: Restore your Health Through Natural Movement,” states that we should “exercise less, and move more.” She says that “the problem is that most people fail to consider that their workouts are bookended by hours upon hours of sedentary behavior.” But can you really exercise while working?
Enter the Wurf Board! The Wurf Board is a highly supportive, lively, air-spring surface that encourages standing desk users to make continuous micro movements, which improve blood-flow so you can stand comfortably much longer. These subtle movements improve posture; strengthen feet, legs, core, and back; and raise alertness, focus, and productivity. So, while a person is standing “still” in one place while working at a standing desk, adding the addition of a Wurf Board means they are not biologically still in terms of blood flow and lymph function. Who doesn’t want that throughout their workday?
We experienced the Wurf Boards at Neocon in Chicago this year. They add a bit of fun to the workday in small but beneficial ways.
