What is a Wellness Room?

There isn’t a singular definition for a wellness room but they are becoming more and more commonplace in Corporate America.

By law, Section 7 (r) of the Fair Labor Standards Act requires adequate break time for nursing mothers for one year after the child’s birth and the allocated room must be other than a bathroom and shielded from view.  A minimum footprint of 7 feet by 7 feet is recommended as it allows for a 5-foot ADA radius circle with a 24-inch deep counter.  Milk storage, sink, sound privacy and physical privacy are all fundamental to create an efficient and restful pumping session.  Today, with over 75% of new mothers in the USA choosing to breastfeed, the addition of a Mother’s Room increases the employers ROI three-fold.

Companies that employ more than 50 people are required to supply a Mother’s Room, but where does that leave everyone else?  Que left, in walks the Wellness Room!

Some offices opt for a large communal room, other prefer small or individual rooms and some decide to make the most of the great outdoors.  There are two things to keep in mind regardless of the size and location…. Besides that, the sky is the limit!
