We All Scream for Ice Cream!

Ice cream, just like everything else to a New Jerseyan, IS PERSONAL! With the commencement of Memorial Day, the summer season kicks off with BBQ’s, trips to the shore and regular stops to our favorite ice cream shops.

TeamPAR enjoys Denville Dairy when we are celebrating teammates’ birthdays and when I asked around the office for favorite flavors everyone’s answer was on the tip of their tongue!

Wayne: Vanilla Fudge Swirl Randy: Chocolate Marshmallow
Jamie: Cookie Dough Karen: Chocolate Peanut Butter
Vinny: Chocolate Chip Mint Tina: Pistachio
Alexa: Moose Tracks Erin: Butter Pecan
Patti: Rum Raisin Debbie: Strawberry

Not one duplicate flavor! Ice cream solicits fond memories from our childhood, of care-free, happy times. Can you hear the Good Humor Truck as I walk you down memory lane? Here are a few NJ favorites from around the state.

From Applegate Farm in Montclair to The Bent Spoon in Princeton & Lindy Hops in Galloway – we can surely all agree that we do ice cream right in NJ!  (& Taylor Ham, Hot Dogs, Bagels, Pizza, Cannoli’s – we are foodies who dare to be the best!)

Now for a bit of Jersey nostalgia…  Visit Holsten’s in Bloomfield after re-watching the Soprano Series – a pilgrimage worth making!

Do you put sprinkles or “jimmies” on your ice cream?!  Well, I grew up with parents who called them jimmies, but that is a whole other debate! ????
Jimmies is the most popular term for sprinkles in the Philadelphia and Boston regions. The origin of the name “jimmies” is first documented in 1930, as a topping for cake. Though the Just Born Candy Company of Bethlehem, PA claims to have invented jimmies and named them after an employee, this is unlikely.

So, I ask you… What is your favorite flavor and where do you indulge in ice cream?  Please let us know!  We enjoy hearing from you and sharing in your memories.
