Seek Possibility in 2022’s Color of the Year

Color has a profound impact on us – so much that there is a discipline, called color theory, that helps you use color effectively. The effects of color have been studied in many fields, ranging from physics to psychology and metaphysics. It subliminally influences our mood and emotions and is even used in therapeutic ways. Color therapy, or chromotherapy, is part of a branch of creative healing therapies that uses color to heal physical and emotional health complaints.

And couldn’t we all use a little healing after the last two years? Enter Pantone’s color of 2022 – Very Peri. The Pantone Color Institute, which describes itself as “the global color authority and provider of professional color language standards and digital solutions for the design community” calls Very Peri “a dynamic periwinkle blue hue with a vivifying violet red undertone.” Blue helps induce feelings of peacefulness and reduces stress while the touch of red adds strength, energy, and power. Very Peri helps us leave behind the anxieties of 2020 and 2021, while ushering in some serenity, hope, and feeling of possibility for the coming year.

Pantone is not alone in trying to bring freshness and harmony into the new year. Popular paint brands have done the same with their featured colors of 2022. Benjamin Moore selected October Mist, a silver-green hue, to evoke creativity and establish “a canvas for other colors and your imagination to blossom.” Sherwin-Williams chose Evergreen Fog for being “soothing, subtle, and a perfect shade to freshen up any space.” And Behr named Breezeway its color of the year for “expressing peace and tranquility for forward movement.”

We look forward to the refreshing serenity and vitality these featured colors will bring to design throughout 2022. TeamPAR understands the power of color, and we can help you create the color story of your space.
