The office environment was originally an employer powered machine with both eyes focused on profitability. Today, one eye is on the bottom line and the other on the people as administrators walk a tightrope to come up with a focused and balanced vision. People will always need to earn a paycheck and some will sadly see the 40 + hours a week they spend at work as merely a “job”, but the generational shift in the workplace that is most significant is that the experience does matter. Lean & Meaningful does give employees a voice and power, but in my opinion, it pays extra dividends on the backend — with loyalty and team retention.
